Bad Wimpfen

Bad Wimpfen was a town many people told us to go visit. It is a walled Medieval city with lots of half-timbered houses. All the houses were higgily-piggily and it was awesome!! Every street we went down we found more houses that we loved! One house was really Dr. Suess-ish and looked like it would fall over but also looked very sturdy at the same time. It's a very quiet town to roam and visit the shops. It started raining hard and thundering on us so we ducked into a shop. The shop owner was very nice and her family has lived in Bad Wimpfen for generations. After the rain we went to another shop and the lady said the shop used to be a barn and she remodeled it herself. We weren't sure if she said it took 3 years or 13 years. It was a very cozy shop and very cool compared to the heat outside. I'm sure the medieval animals lived in the lap of luxury here. I wanted to buy a cute coat hanger and she said she'd like to sale it but she accidentally put the sticker on the picture on the hangar and it rips off when she takes the price tag off. So she just gave it to me! How generous! I wanted to ask if I could see her house because I wanted to see the inside of these crazy homes, but Chris said that might be a little forward :)

I believe this is the Neckar River.

This is the view from the top of the church tower. It was impressive! The tower burnt down at one point but has been rebuilt. The right picture shows Chris and Fiona at the bottom :) In the shade next to the building.

This is the narrowest home in the town. It was a skinny wedge of a house! How cute!

I liked the view on the left with the white house leaning out from the bottom. See how it curves up to the other building as it gets higher. The right picture shows all the odd shapes of windows and timbered areas.

I loved these three houses together because it shows all types of homes here; half-timbered, stone and a stucco-type.

Homes and buildings all mashed up in any way possible!

The picture on the left is crazy because the whole house leans to the left. Nothing is straight and off-center from the door. The right picture you can see the over-hang of the house that it is skinny and thick in places, no rhyme or reason. So much character!

We saw a poster advertising a carnival that day so we walked into the main part of town to see it. It was a blast! I've never seen a carnival of this magnitude! So many rides, stuffed animals, treats, people, booths, etc. The booths were crazy because they would sell chocolates or toys and right next to it would be selling underwear or kitchen pots and spatulas.

(Chris dumped his ice cream cone on Fiona trying to take this picture! She's bugged in the picture because she doesn't want to be held to look at the camera. Then she realized she had delicious ice cream all over her, then she was happy as a clam!)

(Wish my finger wasn't in the picture :)
